Ski level guide
Use the guide below to find your level.
Freshers
For children who are ready to learn to ski for the very first time! They’ve either never put skis on before or have skied before but were unable to stop or turn. These groups will focus on having fun and getting used to the feeling of ski equipment and slipping around on the snow. During the week they will cover the basics of speed control, stopping and linking turns. They will also gain some experience with the lifts in resort.
Swifts
For children who have skied on snow before, or had some lessons at a dry ski slope or indoor snow centre. Children are ready to progress from the nursery slopes and begin to sample more of the pistes the resort has to offer. They can ski in a snowplough, performing turns and control their skis to a stop. During the week, Swifts will work on the beginnings of parallel skiing and get comfortable with going a bit faster on the easier runs in resort.
Cruisers
Intermediate children who are happy to ski with some speed. Their skis are parallel most of the time, although maybe still wide apart and if the slope gets steeper they may revert to a snowplough. These groups will cover mastering the parallel turns on most terrains, and some more of the foundations of skiing, such as side slipping, skating on skis and hockey stops.
Rockers
This is for children who are confidently skiing parallel, enjoy a few more of the harder runs and are looking to learn how to perform short parallel turns and carve. Rockers will work on improving their long and short turns, introducing the pole plant and tackling some more variables, such as steeper runs and bumps. Children will likely spend a couple of seasons in a Rockers group before progressing to a Top Cat group.
Top Cats
For children who can ski most runs on the mountain, they want to have fun in the bumps, off piste and are looking to challenge themselves. Top Cat groups will cover improving the children’s on-piste skiing so they are ready to sample all-mountain skiing. The harder pistes in resort will be tackled and the children should be able to remain in control at all times.
